Tue, March 31, 2009 - 10:52 AMWhen I saw the little cables running from the arms to the torches, that's what I thought it was, but there's one 'miss' that showed some distinctive droplets you wouldn't get in propane.

Tue, March 31, 2009 - 10:46 AMI don't know how it is being done, but...
It would be easy to rig a can of hair spray (or other flammable) and have a string pulling a lever to push the spray nozzle.

Tue, March 31, 2009 - 11:06 AMAH Ha!
The puppeteer has some kind of low profile backpack/beltpack on. Could be the fuel source. The right hand is in "gunslinger" position, not in the standard open claw of a puppeteer. I think the right hand stick is a squirt gun rigged with a black tube running down to the head. You can see it at about 0:05 just as the first photographer comes into view and again as they turn towards the main performance area. The gun is easy to see after the first fireball.

Re: Fire Puppet
Tue, March 31, 2009 - 3:41 PMHEY LUNARTOOL!!! HOW DA 'ELL 'R' YA?
So, ya, this freakin' puppet is interesting.. seems it was filmed at a Día Fuera del Tiempo festival last year July 25th, maybe in France... (yup, yup, sand here, internet detective... he he...)
some background...
"The Day Out Of Time, celebrated annually since 1992, always falls on July 25th. On the 13 Moon calendar, this day is no day of the month, and no day of the week. It is in between the closing of the previous year (July 24th) and the dawning of the new year (July 26th). The official flag is the Banner Of Peace."
"This flag is flown in 71 Brazilian cities alone, where it is recognized as an official municipal holiday. In Japan, over 100 Day Out Of Time Festivals displayed this symbol to unify our intentions of "Planetary Peace Through Culture." This day is an opportunity to experience the freedom of being alive, true timelessness and loving kindness. Whether public gatherings or private circles, this day is a catalytic launch-pad for the year to come, a great, global harnessing of telepathic presence, and a perfect way to invite new participants into the harmony of the 13 Moon Calendar."
YouTube vids of the event worldwide: www.youtube.com/watch
"Great discoveries occur because the time demands them. The more urgent the need, the more necessary is the discovery. The Law of Time was unearthed to facilitate an unprecedented shift in human consciousness. Only by such a shift can the global crisis be resolved and surmounted.
By 2012, according to the Law of Time, we must be ready for this shift, the unparalleled transition into the next stage of our evolution, the noosphere. This signifies the attainment of a unified field of planetary consciousness.
To change human consciousness, one preliminary step is to change the human macroprogram - the calendar. The most practical application of the Law of Time is the Thirteen Moon/28-day calendar. With this elegant tool, the Law of Time lays the foundation for the reformulation of the human mind - the coming of the noosphere. But this is only the beginning of the adventure in time."
so, it seems, we are not alone at BRC... he he... lots of ideas spinning around this planet...

Re: Fire Puppet
Sun, April 5, 2009 - 10:33 PMThanks to all who posted...the squirt bottle of white gas won't work as white gas would dissolve the plastic in a squirt biottle? What about flash back? I was thinking about channeling my backpacking experience and contacting MSR back packing stoves. Maybe a pressurized MSR back packing gas bottle as a fuel source...some kind of tubing? Then a brass turned nozzle as a jet at the puppet's head. I was thinking of some kind of small diameter 1/2 turn valve...like maybe one that is used as a water line for a refridgerator...am I on to something???? Should I worry about flash back into the white gas bottle? -

Re: Fire Puppet
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 12:38 AMMetal tip for the sprayer to avoid flashbacks, lamp oil instead of white to increase the safety. the seals are really the only problem. The hose and container won't melt but the gaskets might. [Re: probably will]
Pressure and volatile fuels are generally a bad mix. Water valves are a little slow. I think the advantage of the squirt gun was that it was a readily replaceable pump that could be retrofitted with Petrol friendly hoses from the source and to the head.
Here's a cheap source.

Mon, April 6, 2009 - 12:40 AMOh, and you can get passive flash arrestors that fit in tubing. They sell a bunch of different types for propane systems. -
